New Traffic Motorcycles Now in Service 🚓

Our department has added new motorcycles to our traffic unit to enhance safety and enforcement throughout the community. These motorcycles were funded through the California Highway Patrol’s Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program (CTFGP), which supports efforts to reduce impaired driving.

Truckee PD pursued this grant to launch a more comprehensive traffic program focused on addressing drunk and drugged driving—including Bicycle DUIs, which have been identified as a growing concern. As our first street enforcement motorcycle program, we expect this addition to significantly increase proactive enforcement and have a lasting impact on roadway safety.

Motorcycles allow officers to navigate congestion more efficiently, respond quickly, and access areas not easily reached by patrol vehicles.

You’ll see officers focusing on speed enforcement, traffic safety, and violations that contribute to crashes.

From day one, Mugz has been more than just an outreach K9. He’s been a source of comfort, smiles, and connection throughout our community. Whether he’s visiting schools, attending events, or just brightening someone’s day, Mugz reminds us why we do what we do.

Bears are active in our area and can get into unlo

Bears are active in our area and can get into unlocked vehicles if they smell food or scented items inside. Once a bear learns cars may contain food, it may keep returning to neighborhoods, which can create safety issues for both people and wildlife.

Help prevent bear break-ins:
🔒 Lock your vehicle doors
🍟 Do not leave food, snacks, coolers, or trash in your car
🧴 Remove scented items like gum, sunscreen, or air fresheners
🏕 Store food properly if you’re camping or recreating nearby

Food-conditioned bears can become dangerous and may eventually have to be relocated or euthanized. Small steps make a big difference.

Lock your car. Keep bears wild.

Join us for Free Medication Take-back Day, where you can safely and anonymously dispose of any unneeded or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications.

This event is for community members only. This event is not for hospitals, doctor’s offices, distributors, veterinary clinics, or DEA registrants.

What is accepted? Medication pills (prescription and over-the-counter), liquid medications, and pet prescription medication pills or liquids.

What is NOT accepted? Sharps, inhalers, vape devices, creams, intravenous solutions, medical waste or equipment, or anything that is not on the ‘accepted’ list.

Here's how it works:
Medication Pills: You can leave them in their original container and black out any personal information.
Liquid medications: Keep them in their original bottles, black out any personal information, and place the bottles in a zip-lock bag.

Can't make it? No problem! Permanent Rx drug drop-off bins are available at the following locations:
Truckee Police Department: Monday through Friday, 9 AM - 4 PM
CVS Pharmacy: business hours
Tahoe Forest Hospital Pharmacy- business hours

This Free Medication Take-back Day is a collaborative effort between the Truckee Police Department, Nevada County Public Health, Tahoe Forest Health System, The Speedy Foundation, and the Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA.
