REMINDER: Truckee Police Community Discussion this Friday, February 6th at 5:00 p.m., in the Council Chamber at Town Hall.

California law requires a yearly community meeting to discuss the Police Department’s annual report on its inventory of military equipment, as defined by California Government Code 7070. This meeting serves as an opportunity to provide education to the public on our department’s use of this equipment, as well as allow for any community questions to be answered on the topic. The input received will help shape our annual report being sent to Town Council this calendar year.

Our department policy on military equipment has is displayed for public view on our website’s transparency page, as well as 2026 military equipment list.

COMMUNITY AWARENESS- WOLF ACTIVITY RECORDED IN TRUCKEE

You may see reports circulating that a wolf has appeared on the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) wolf tracking map within the Truckee area.

This information is being shared for situational awareness for residents and visitors in and around Truckee.

We encourage the public to remain alert and take the following precautions:

- Pet owners should closely supervise pets, especially during early morning and evening hours
- Livestock owners should take appropriate measures to protect animals
- Do not approach, feed, or attempt to harass wildlife

If you observe a wolf or have photographs or video, please report the information directly to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) through their Wildlife Incident Reporting (WIR) so the activity can be properly documented and monitored.

Your cooperation helps wildlife officials track movement and supports informed public safety decisions.

Recently, Truckee Police Department and @truckeefi

Recently, Truckee Police Department and @truckeefire attended an informative safety training hosted by the @truckeedonnerpud (TDPUD) focused on downed power lines and what first responders and the public should do if one is encountered.

Downed power lines are always dangerous, even if they don’t appear to be energized. As part of the training, responders learned more about different voltage levels, why they matter, and how hazards can vary depending on the type of line involved. The session also covered common contributing factors that can cause outages, including weather, vegetation, equipment damage, and vehicle collisions.

The training served as a helpful reminder of the importance of:
✅ Maintaining a safe distance
✅ Securing the area and keeping the public back
✅ Avoiding contact with vehicles, fences, or objects that may be energized
✅ Prioritizing public safety until power can be confirmed off
✅ Response protocols to protect responders and the community

This kind of interagency training strengthens coordination and ensures that when emergencies happen, our teams are ready to respond quickly and safely.

📌 Community Reminder: If you see a downed power line, stay at least 35 feet away, keep others back, and call 911 immediately.

Firearms Training at Truckee Police Department!

The Truckee Police Department recently conducted a department-wide firearms range training to ensure our officers remain highly skilled and prepared to protect and serve our community at a moment’s notice. Our officers routinely train throughout the year in a variety of areas where the use of firearms could be anticipated; such as in active shooter situations, high-risk vehicle stops, and when dealing with armed and dangerous subjects. In addition to firearms training, our officers also regularly train in the areas of de-escalation, arrest and control tactics, and less lethal force options.

Why do we hold regular firearms training?
Safety First: Proper training ensures officers can handle firearms safely and responsibly when dangerous circumstances arise.
Skill Maintenance: Regular practice hones accuracy and proficiency, which are critical in high-pressure situations.
Community Trust: Well-trained officers are better equipped to make sound decisions, ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
