Around 2:45 PM this afternoon, TPD responded to a

Around 2:45 PM this afternoon, TPD responded to a report of a vehicle colliding into multiple pedestrians near the front entrance of Safeway. Upon arrival, officers determined the act had been committed intentionally. The driver of the vehicle, 49 year old Jonathan Maurer of Coalinga, was taken into custody on scene.

Approximately four victims, consisting of both adults and children, sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the incident.

Maurer was booked at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City on charges pertaining to assault with deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily injury, felony vandalism, and violation of his post release community supervision terms.

This investigation is on-going, and no further information will be released at this time.

Truckee Police are on scene of a vehicle collision involving multiple injuries in the Safeway parking lot (11290 Donner Pass Road). While a continued law enforcement presence is expected to be in the area for the investigation, there is no risk to the public at this time.

This meeting serves as an opportunity to provide education to the public on our department’s use of this equipment, as well as allow for any community questions to be answered on the topic. The input received will help shape our annual report being sent to Town Council this calendar year.

COMMUNITY AWARENESS- WOLF ACTIVITY RECORDED IN TRUCKEE

You may see reports circulating that a wolf has appeared on the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) wolf tracking map within the Truckee area.

This information is being shared for situational awareness for residents and visitors in and around Truckee.

We encourage the public to remain alert and take the following precautions:

- Pet owners should closely supervise pets, especially during early morning and evening hours
- Livestock owners should take appropriate measures to protect animals
- Do not approach, feed, or attempt to harass wildlife

If you observe a wolf or have photographs or video, please report the information directly to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) through their Wildlife Incident Reporting (WIR) so the activity can be properly documented and monitored.

Your cooperation helps wildlife officials track movement and supports informed public safety decisions.

Recently, Truckee Police Department and @truckeefi

Recently, Truckee Police Department and @truckeefire attended an informative safety training hosted by the @truckeedonnerpud (TDPUD) focused on downed power lines and what first responders and the public should do if one is encountered.

Downed power lines are always dangerous, even if they don’t appear to be energized. As part of the training, responders learned more about different voltage levels, why they matter, and how hazards can vary depending on the type of line involved. The session also covered common contributing factors that can cause outages, including weather, vegetation, equipment damage, and vehicle collisions.

The training served as a helpful reminder of the importance of:
✅ Maintaining a safe distance
✅ Securing the area and keeping the public back
✅ Avoiding contact with vehicles, fences, or objects that may be energized
✅ Prioritizing public safety until power can be confirmed off
✅ Response protocols to protect responders and the community

This kind of interagency training strengthens coordination and ensures that when emergencies happen, our teams are ready to respond quickly and safely.

📌 Community Reminder: If you see a downed power line, stay at least 35 feet away, keep others back, and call 911 immediately.
